Mark Niles, the president and principal, started the Niles Partners in 2001. Niles had been engaged in human resources and managerial consulting and coaching when an opportunity to serve the nonprofit community arose. He then founded the Niles Partners, LLC.
Niles has two passions: 1) helping others maximize their effectiveness, and 2) applying “best business practices” where they are needed. Mark has worked in the insurance, where he rose to regional manager and the publishing industry, where he served as national marketing manager – serving two different publishing efforts.
Returning to Texas, Niles started a direct mail venture and after 3 years, sold it at a significant profit. He then enrolled at Abilene Christian and graduated with a Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy – a General Systems based, intense 2-year program that included a thesis.
After ten years in Human Resources consulting (management coaching, training, and developing needs-based programs), working with clients such as Dow Chemical, Albemarle, Exxon and other concerns, Niles focused specifically in the areas of leadership development and systemic improvement. Mark was approached to assist a Houston nonprofit with their executive director search. That effort was successful. He seized on the idea of applying the targeted, practical solutions gained in the commercial world to the challenges of nonprofit groups. He has transferred his experiences into his current practice.
Mark has changed the way many organizations look at their strategic plans, devised a process that cuts strategic planning time by two thirds, reorganized boards to operate more effectively, trained nonprofit leaders to leverage their limited resources and served as a recruit vetting resource for nonprofits.
Niles is a natural trainer, a root cause problem solver and has keen insight.
His clients include: Fort Bend Mental Health Association, Fort Bend County Women’s Center, AADA, Talento Bilingüe de Houston, Bay Area Rehabilitation Center, Houston Junior Forum, Prairie View A & M University, Heritage Oaks School, Boys and Girls Harbor, Target Hunger, CAN of Baytown, the Lupus Lymphoma Society of Houston and the National MPS Society. He served on the Board of Directors of The Association of Fund Raising Professionals – Greater Houston Chapter – for five years 3 of which were on the executive committee. While on the board, Niles created a Day of Service during which members of the association contributed a day of their time to work with a selected nonprofit. Mark co-chaired the National Philanthropy Day Celebration, an event attended by 1200 of Houston’s philanthropic community, thanking the group and calling attention to importance of philanthropy. He earned his BSBA from Boston University and his Masters from Abilene Christian University.
