When the specialists at The Niles Partners facilitates a strategic plan, we take time to discuss implementing the strategic plan. All too often we see a beautiful binder sitting in the executive’s bookcase covered with dust. When asked about it, they respond, “oh that, it’s our strategic plan.” The dust tells the story of the plan implementation.
Usually The Niles Partners hear all the reasons the agency has not implemented the plan. These include new programs, board members, development officer, or the most frequent, “we just don’t have the time”.
The truth is that you must implement the strategic plan. This plan serves as the agency road map for the next three to five years. It gives direction on how to achieve the agency’s vision. Additionally, when calling on any prospective donor, the number one question asked is, “do you have a current strategic plan and may I see the documentation of your implementation process?”
If your organization has a plan and it is not being implanted according to a schedule you are at risk of losing potential gifts and your agency is most likely moving without direction. As Nike says, just do it!
