A group of people who like what you do is not necessarily an effective Board. An effective Board is diverse: ethnically, culturally, financially, and most importantly, diverse in thought. Thought diversity brings to light many perspectives: an all woman Board has one perspective, an all male Board has another perspective, a Board made up exclusively of wealthy people have yet another perspective. Boards need to be diversified professionally. For example an accountant, an attorney, a professional from the services that the organization provides, e.g. a doctor on the Board of an organization providing Health services.
Do an inventory of your Board and see how diverse it really is. If you need help, call us.
